An intro to the one behind the lens!

Hi and welcome to my blog! I have finally decided to incorporate writing into my photography business to tell stories both visually and verbally, and to showcase my portfolio.

I believe that behind every photo, there is a story. Some stories are not grandiose or monumental documentations, but they tell a genuine real story. It may be a newborn being held in dad’s arms while their little sister kisses their face. It may be the love between a couple who were recently engaged or a couple saying ‘I do’. It may be a simple hug between parents while they watch their children. Their own story is very personal and huge for them and to be honest, that is truly all that matters.

My personal story trails back to when I was around fourteen when I picked up a canon snapshot film camera and began taking photos of my friends, family and life. And being film, it was more expensive to get developed as I didn’t have a job. But that didn’t stop me. These photos were the backbone of my passion to capture life and especially the little moments of everyday things.

I was driven to take photos as my mum had passed away when I was eight and there were not many photos of her as she was always taking them. These are precious photos to me as she is not in many and most of the ones she is in are blurry (thanks dad). I guess I decided to subconsciously take up photography to document life through my eyes and to ensure they were not blurry or cutting off people’s heads!

I took it from simple hobby photography to professional photography in 2015. My daughter and I were wedding videographers then switched over to wedding photographers for almost nine years. The last year and a half we have had a much-needed break from the industry as burn out had seeped in. It has been a very soothing break and my passion for it has returned.

I have missed capturing and connecting with people and thus I made the decision to begin documenting families, engagements, and lifestyle a year ago. I still shoot the occasional wedding and will continue to do so as they hold such a special place in my heart.

Anywhoooo, I just wanted to jump on and share a little of my journey so far.

So… keep a weathered eye on the horizon for more of my personal story in future blogs.
